TiVo Replacement Hard Drive Installation
Disconnect all of the cables connected to the TiVo, taking note of where each lead
was connected.
Remove 3 screws on the back of the TiVo: the lid needs to slide back
approximately 1cm before it will lift off. The screws are Torx T10; if you need a
screwdriver you can order one at the www.pacelink.co.uk
online shop.
You will now see either 1 or 2 Hard Drives inside your TiVo. If you dont
know what these look like, put the lid back on and call for help!
If the TiVo has never been upgraded before, you will have either 1 x 40Gb hard
drive or 1 x 30Gb (Master or A drive) and 1 x 15Gb (Slave or B drive).
Remove the 2 screws holding the drive bracket(s) and remove the drive(s).
If you have a single replacement drive, it should be fitted as a Master or A
drive. Do not connect any drive to the Slave or B connectors.
The A drive should always be connected to the end connector on the IDE cable
(the grey ribbon cable).
If you have 2 replacement drives, they are marked Drive A and
Drive B. Connect Drive A as above, and connect Drive B to the connector half
way along the IDE cable.
If you have purchased a Hard Drive bracket assembly you will have 2 extra screws
provided; these are self-tapping for use where the TiVo holes are unthreaded.
Check that all of the connectors are fully home and that all screws are
tightened before re-fitting the lid.
Re-connect the TiVo (watch that all SCART leads are still in place), power up
and wait for the Guided Setup screen to appear.
If the TV comes on with a blank screen, make sure its not in RGB mode, as
the TiVo will only output composite video at this stage. Try moving the SCART plug in the
TV to another input socket.
